Matt Mueggenborg

By the time I moved to Stillwater, OK in 1992, I already had a head start on my family. My children were infants and I knew that a college degree was going to be a necessity to raise them properly. After struggling for a semester with architectural engineering, I switched to graphic design and followed that degree program to completion. Along the way, I worked at Wal-Mart, Sonic Drive-In, Big Ed's Hamburgers, Subway, and like quite a few Interworks employees, Creative Labs.
As I was finishing up my degree in 1997-1998, I was recruited by the Oklahoma State University IT department (then known as CIS). They needed a graphics person to compliment the group of developers they had already gathered. Over the next several years, I honed my development and design skills and shortly before Y2K, I was put in a management role for the webteam. I continued this role until the Texas Tech/ Schmidly administration took over at OSU. Then, I was traded much like an athlete to another department. My main role was to support the University Marketing group in updating the University website, as well as maintaining web content for the IT department. The Marketing department was pleased with my work, and hired me in 2005. It was at that point that I assumed the role of University Webmaster, which I continued until May of 2008. During that time, I implemented the University's first content management system, with no staff or budget other than my development time. My CMS implementation served the University for 3 years before being replaced.
I had been at OSU for 11 years, and had always wondered if how successful I could be outside of the university. I started watching job postings, and ran across a web design firm in Oklahoma City that had an impressive portfolio of work. I sent them several examples of OSU work, as well as some freelance things I had done along the way. They hired me immediately. While I only worked there for four months, it was like a web design boot camp. I learned as much as I had in the previous 11 years at OSU. I probably produced 20+ designs in that time frame, which helped me get in touch with several emerging trends in web design.
Commuting from Stillwater to OKC finally wore me down, and I started looking for employment at a more local level. Several friends suggested I try Interworks, and in October, 2008, I was offered a position. Since starting that position, I have assumed a design lead role for the Interworks webteam. My primary function is to produce intuitive designs and user interfaces for our clients' websites. In the event that my fellow team members are completely busy, I often help out with the site cutup and build as well.
Stillwater has been my home for quite a few years now, and I have no intention of leaving anytime soon. My family consists of my lovely wife, Bridget, two daughters: Natalie and Breanne, and one son: Matthew. I also have 3 dogs: Punkin (Boston Terrier mix), Pepper (Chihuahua), and Frankie (Chihuahua), as well as one Siamese cat: Sasha.
