If you have ever tried to open an excel document and received the error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program", you can fix it by doing the following:

  1. Open Excel 2007
  2. Open the Menu in the top left
  3. Click the "Excel Options" button

  4. Click the advanced tab on the left of the options screen
  5. Under the general options uncheck the box "Ignore other application that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)"

solution does NOT work for me

Here's my case: Office 2010 was preloaded on new Windows7 laptop from store. I own 2007, so I uninstalled the Office 2010 and installed the 2007 . I'm suspecting that this is related to some dregs of 2010 remaining, because I've not had this issue when installing to clean systems.

I have been getting this

I have been getting this error for the past week. There was an problem sending the command to the program. I have checked your fix out but found that the box was not checked so unchecking was not an option. Do you have any other Idea's?. I use Windows 7. with an Acer desk top.
