If you have ever tried to open an excel document and received the error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program", you can fix it by doing the following:
- Open Excel 2007
- Open the Menu in the top left
- Click the "Excel Options" button

- Click the advanced tab on the left of the options screen
- Under the general options uncheck the box "Ignore other application that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)"

Thankyou many times over
Thanks for the crisp, clear and snapshot documented fix which worked for both my *.xls and .xlsx files in Win7. As others have expressed, I was searching off and on for days until landing on your fix (including Microsoft which wasn't helpful). bravo, encore.

Is there a way to get past
Is there a way to get past that error without unchecking the DDE option? I have a dual monitor setup and often have as many as 6 excel files open and viewable at a time. As far as I know, the only way to keep them in separate windows in Excel 2007 is to keep that DDE option checked.
