We have come to find that ESET is a very reliable and powerful antivirus tool, but like many other anti-viruses sometimes Malware and Trojans can sneak through.

I recently ran into this Win32/Sirefef.EZ Trojan virus and it completely stumped me. I ran multiple scanners and not one of them found anything wrong with the machine. Research through Google power was leading me to people with the same issue but no resolution. After running my third unsuccessful virus scan I decided it wasn't worth waiting for them to finish - I went straight back to the research.

After stumbling through countless forums I came upon a "Win32/Sirefef.A" removal tool and downloaded it immediately to get rid of this issue. Got the executable onto the machine ran the program and found nothing... So back to the search I went, continuing to look through ESET forums - finally I found an kb article that had been updated just 4 days prior.

This artible comes with a Sirefef.EZ fix as well as a services fix that the Trojan will change at will with no permissions needed. Downloaded both pieces of software and ran them with a reboot after each. ESET scan was ran on the machine and was no longer finding the Trojan. Functionality of the machine was returned back to normal.
