Migrating from Exchange 2000 or 2003 to 2007 can be a daunting task for any network administrator.  A great deal of time and planning must go into the migration to ensure data is moved successfully and users retain all of their messages.  With all of the thought going into the Exchange migration itself, often times another very important part of the messaging system is overlooked; the Blackberry Enterprise Server.  The BES is generally a very stable and intelligent system, redirecting messages and picking up mailbox moves on the fly, however, when migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2000/2003 to 2007, there are several steps that must be taken in order to keep mail flowing to blackberry devices.  The steps needed to configure an existing Blackberry Enterprise Server for operation after an Exchange 2007 migration are listed below:

THE FOLLOWING STEPS MUST BE PERFORMED WHILE LOGGED ON AS THE BLACKBERRY ADMINISTRATOR

1. Stop all Blackberry Enterprise Server services.

2. Move the Blackberry Enterprise Server account mailbox to the new Microsoft Exchange Server. The default name for this account is BESAdmin.

3. If the BlackBerry Administration/Service account mailbox is being moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007,server modifications are required to be made to the MAPI profiles to enable GC referrals.

• a. Log on to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.
• b. Back up HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows Messaging SubsystemProfiles
• c. Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows Messaging SubsystemProfiles registry key to remove all existing profiles from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
• d. Create a new Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile using the BlackBerry Server tab of the BlackBerry Server Configuration Panel.
• e. Edit the BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI profile within the registry to include the following:

4. After migrating Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or 2003, verify the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 permissions for the Blackberry Enterprise Server.

5. Set the required permissions for the Blackberry Enterprise Server in Microsoft Exchange 2007. For more information, see Blackberry article KB12483.

6. If Microsoft Exchange System Manager 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Version 6.5.7638 or higher is installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, skip to step 10. If it is lower, continue with step 6.

7. Remove Microsoft Exchange System Manager. (A Microsoft Exchange Server installation CD is required to complete this step.)

• Perform a search for MAPI32.dll and cdo.dll.
• Rename any cdo.dll and MAPI32.dll files from the system32 folder and the program filesexchsrvrbin folder to a .bak file extension.
• Download and install the latest Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) and Collaboration Data Object (CDO) clients. For more information, see article KB12697.
• Resolve the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by going to Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit MAPI Profile.
• Start the BlackBerry Enterprise services. Be sure to start the services in this order:
  1. BlackBerry Router
  2. BlackBerry Dispatcher
  3. BlackBerry Controller
  4. The rest in any

8. Resolve the MAPI profile for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account mailbox on the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 by going to Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit MAPI Profile.

9. Restart the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
